Extra Playing Opportunities

Solo & Ensemble Contest - Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the annual Ohio Music Association (OMEA) Solo & Ensemble Contest. The purpose of this event is to promote and encourage students to improve basic musicianship through performing solo and ensemble literature. This is an assessment available to every band student in the state of Ohio. Students who are taking private lessons are strongly encouraged to participate in this event. There are several classifications the students can compete in such as solo, trio, and ensemble. The OMEA Solo and Ensemble Contest is held in late March or early April. Please see the Band Calendar for the correct date.

District 14 Honor Band - This is a highly selected band composed of the best middle school players in our district. Students who are interested in this band will play a preliminary audition at Natel and the selected finalists audition in early December at a host site. Look for information to be sent home in late October/early November.

Jazz Band - There will be Jazz Band for 7th and 8th Grade students to participate in. This group will begin rehearsing in the fall and utilize traditional big band instrumentation: Alto, Tenor, and Bari Saxes, Trumpets, Trombones, and a rhythm section which includes piano, drumset, and bass guitar. Students audition for the group and will meet on Thursdays after school in the band room.

Other ensembles will be created accordingly throughout the year per student interest! (Percussion Ensemble, Horn Choir, Clarinet Choir, and various Chamber Groups)
