Orchestra Grading Policy

Class Participation - 45%

Daily Preparation and Participation

Dailty Attendance/Tardiness - Students are given 4 minutes from the end of their previous class to get to the strings room and to be in their seats with their instrument. Two tardies result in a detention. However, excessive tardiness results in the delay of the whole class, and will affect the participation grade.


Class Grades (playing) - 45%

Playing Tests - Students will have playing tests approximately 2 times per quarter.

Written Assignments - Occasionally, written assignments will be given. These assignments may focus on music theory, musical terms, or music history relevant to what is being studied in class.


Concert Attendance - 10%
Orchestra is a performance-based course. We spend much of our time preparing together for performance. Because of this dynamic, each person is essential to a superior performance. Therefore, all students must participate in performances. A Concert Absence Form must be completed either prior to or immediately after a missed performance. Students who have an excuses absence from a performance can make up the performance grade by completing a make-up assignment. Students with an unexcused absence will have their quarter grade lowered by one letter grade.
